Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). The following year, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent by 1988. Mitchell was promoted to the chief White House correspondent in 1992. As well as the the chief correspondent for foreign affairs at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist, as well as presenter of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist in 1988's presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell was married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contributions to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on in the White House in 1981-1988, in both the Reagan presidency. Mitchell covered a wide range of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-Contra scandal, the tax reforms to the budget as well as arms control. Mitchell travelled together with President Ronald Reagan many times to attend summits and discuss matters such as that of the Iran Contra controversy.
